I can see what your saying. But i think its important to bring up these points so someone looking at getting a firewall for the first time knows this. And i guarentee, there are alot of windows firewall users out there that don't know this. This firewall is okay, but its not great and there are better out there. And just so you know, the above did really happen 3 years ago.Exactly as i stated it!.

I tend to agree. Many people find firewalls annoying because of the outbound protection, which will keep pestering you as to whether you want to allow certain programs to access the internet. It is, however, an important security feature. If you're happy with the Windows firewall, that's fine, but people should not think that it provides the same level of protection as Zone Alarm, or another 2 way firewall.

I built a firewall appliance form a PII and Smoothwall. Coupled with a personal firewall on each computer such as Zone Alarm (for outgoing monitoring), my biggest worry is whether any of my users are trying to subvert security, intentionally or otherwise.

I agree that viruses are only the obvious, visible threat; and the fewer zombie computers online, the fewer sources of spam, fewer blinds for black hats to shift through and less resources available for DoS attacks.

I also think some of you guys need to chill. :p
