Best free way to advertise

yeah I know....

its hard to advertise a website freely because nowadays you really need money to advertise on a site.

But i was wonderin if there a good places to post reviews of the website and such. I just want some hits.

my site still a WIP so i want to try and promote it. But i dont have much money

what do you guys recommend.

When I started with my Firstwebsite, I added the address to my yahoo profile and my Myspace page. Also if you sign any guest books, make sure you let everyone know you have a site with a link to go there.

You can get a few hits from them 3 things, but dont expect to get alot.

I take part in many forum and set link website in my signature :D. If your posts are really good, members will access your wesite! It's my little experience ;)

Yeah it looks like your website is doing pretty good, I saw another one of your articles make it to the front page today.

Posting stuff to Digg is an excellent way to gain traffic to your site, but only if it is quality material. The comment system on Digg basically prevents people from spamming since the users control what is popular and what is not.

you could also post the site here, we could look at it. that'll give you some visitors. maybe we'll return, who knows?
also try putting it in your sig, if you post a lot here, people will click it.
 
Thanks alot guys I really appreciate your help :) digg looks awesome :) but your right I will need to add something special to get the hits needed

but like I say im still working on it. I dont want to throw together uncompleted stuff on the internet like so many amateur sites out there. I want it to be complete when I put it on, then I add all the extras :)

My friend does something rather naughty, he goes to teenchat.com and tells people to go to his site as it features some 'naughty' material. Of course it doesn't, but it gets him the hits.
You could also advertise another website as long as they advertise yours.

The best way to promote your website is to optimize it for search engines and get it submitted to blogs. the more traffic is gets the higher in google search results it'll get. There is not a free way to do this,but there is a way where it will cost u i think off memory,$20 a year. my advice would be to go here:

www.hostmywebsitenow.com

click on 'marketing tools' then "traffic blazer"

most professionals, when they get a website made for their business use traffic blazer cuz it's competely automatic.

Yeh, I was going to suggest Digg - someone beat me to it - also SE's love frequent fresh content - update your site often... even if nobody's reading it just work on it. The old addage, if you build it they will come is very true if you work hard and create an experience users will enjoy.
 
Things I can think of
  • Forum Sigs - 4.37% of my hits have been from my sig here, 99.05% have come from forum sigs overall, thats 391 hits for free
  • Link directories, I have not tried these yet, but they are usually free
  • Submit to google - and hope people use search terms related to your site
