BEST Gaming Router

Ok, I have an old D-link and it's time to upgrade...I will be running at least 1 if not 2 Xbox 360's and at least 2 or 3 computers. So, let the debate start...pros and cons along with personal experience would be greatly appreciated...price is an issue too.

Just go for a wireless G router that supports MIMO
I would personally go with the 802.11n instead of 802.11g w/MIMO, especially if you are upgrading your network. Theres really no such thing as a "gaming" router. I've seen a few and all they do is set priority to certain devices so that in theory, you will have a lower ping even if someone is downloading something on another computer. I've tried a few of these without much success.

Over in the Xbox forums there have been a few guys that said they use the D-Link DI-655 Xtreme N and they say it's great. I just need something that can run multiple 360's and computers.

No, all the wireless N stuff out now is "draft N". And yeah, there's no such thing as a "gaming" router. It's all marketing crap.

  1. no such thing as a gaming router
It all stuff for insecure poeople, and also true, N is not standardized yet, its all Draft N still, and its not worth spending the hundred, on it when u can get a MIMO G for around the same price.

It is significantly useful when you have many devices connected at once. where a normal wireless access point would lag an access point that supports MIMO will do better because it can handle more incomming and outgoing connections at once.

I don't know anything about that specific router but i also have a dlink router and i like it. it works really well, now if i could just remember what password i used to secure it........ lol

Since ya'll don't really suggest getting an N router because of it being basically a new technology, then what would ya'll suggest for a G router? Specific models? I was reading a review of the D-Link DGL-4300 on Tiger Direct and it was given very high reviews.

I got to thinking and I decided that I'm just gonna get a wired router instead. I'll use the wired for the 360's and the wireless for the computers since I don't notice any lag in the computers while using the wireless.

Can I get some suggestions for a wired router? In order to hook it up so that the wired router and the wireless worked at the same time all I would have to do was connect a LAN port from the wired to the WAN port on the wireless...correct? What speeds do I need to look at getting when it comes to using a wired router with a cable modem? For smooth online play would a 10/100 work or would I need to go ahead and get a 10/100/1000?
