Best gaming system for 1k

Hey guys im new to this forum and know almost nothing about computers. My old computer shit the bed so im looking to build my own gaming computer i only have 3 requirements it has to be around 1k,setup for gaming mainly rts games but im sure ill pick up a few fps and last is its going to be hooked up to my 42 inch vizio if that matters. So if you guys could help find the parts i would really appreciate it.

The i7 860 may be a tad faster but yet there have been reports of i7's not running some game properly plus its a good 80$ more.

If you drop to the i5 750 you will get nearly the same performance and be able to upgrade your GPU to a 5830 creating a much more significant difference then you will lose with the processor.

The i7 860 is the same price at microcenter as the i5 750, but it is a b&m deal only(hence the microcenter link). The i7's will run games the same way as an i5 750, and generally better due to having hyperthreading that can run background processes.

Didnt think i could make that happen but i was seeing some small price drops which was nice :) windows 7 dropped 10 :) some video cards down like 20-30 :) :)

Just to note, your missing out on an optical drive and OS, and i wouldnt recommend running a 700W modxstream for a build of this price, as the OP would more than likely want to crossfire in the future, which the modxstream wouldnt be able to handle. The 5850 is also far better price/performance than the 5870. Swap the PSU to a higher wattage unit, switch the memory away from OCZ(whose ddr3 is rubbish), and the gpu to a 5850 and you should be able to fit an OS and ODD into the budget as well for the OP.

Yea OCZ memory people tend to like it or hate it was taking a little gamble there.

yeas i forgot the ODD sorry + 25.

The power supply will be just fine. Skimming through the 1 star reviews only saw one of it taking out another component out of 360 reviews. Others were just dieing or not getting rebates. Seeing your getting the Power supply for $20 with the combo i dont see a big deal there at all.

The power supply is perfectly fine for a singlecard system(also, when it comes to newegg reviews, dont even bother reading them tbh). However, when it comes to a system like this i'd say a majority of the time the owner will eventually want to go with a crossfire setup, which is why leaving headroom for another gpu is a good idea.

That is a darn good build! If the OP wants to drop $100 I would second the 5850. I like the 5870 but if it helps the budget the 5850 is a good card that does not give that much away to the 5870. I am not a fan of the 5770 but it does have it's price point.
 
some beastly systems there. i would certainly recommend building your own, as you can customise it fully and oc it!
 
Honestly I'd go for an AMD build. This will allow for an HD5850 and crossfire. A 955BE and a 5850 will yield much better gaming performance than an i5/i7 and a 5770.

CPU- AMD Phenom II x4 955BE- $160 (C3 stepping)


CPU Cooler- XIGMATEK HDT-S1283- $36 ($10 rebate) (not the best, but cheap and much better than stock)


Mobo- Gigabyte 790GX- $123 ($15 rebate) (x8/x8 crossfire...shouldn't bottleneck a 5850)


RAM- OCZ AMD BE edition 2x2GB- $125 ($20 rebate) (allows for AMD Overdrive profiles)

hey guys i lost my job about a week after posting my last comment and wasnt able to finish buying everything and now im looking to get the last remaining things but the
ODD: Sony Optiarc DVD +/- RW and Memory: Mushkin Blackline DDR3 1600mhz 4gb kit are out of stock and i wanted to know whats a good replacement for those but around the same price. I have everything that bomber recommended me to buy on the first page the only thing left are those 2 things.
