Best Graphics Card for around $125

I am building a budget gaming computer.

I want the best card for the money and will be using it for gaming on a 20 inch 1600 x 900 monitor.

Thanks!

any radeon 6770 or 5770 will be fine, the 6 is better but idk how low they go. but there is one gtx 460 at that price on newegg and it's closer to a 200 buck card, idk why its at the price but check the reviews and all

Hmmm... Sounds good to me. :D

This card should be able to max out pretty much anything at 1600 x 900 with a Phenom II Quad Core 3.2 ghz and 4gb DDR3 RAM?

Of course. If you overclock your 955BE you'll get better performance in games that aren't multi-threaded (as in they only use one core) and games are very CPU intensive (like GTA IV) if you overclock your CPU and NB (Northbridge)

At 1600x900 it should kill everything. I had a 460 and it did fine at 1920x1080

What about a Radeon 5770 or 6770? Would it be able to handle everything at 1600 x 900?

Thanks.

and if you overclock it it will do this :gun::gun::gun::cool: you'll go  and it'll go :confused: "where was the challenge again?" and you'll go  "that joke was never funny. ok meybe a little."

Ok good. I'll save about 50 bucks with a 6770 over a GTX 460.

I'll have to look into overclocking it.

And that did make me smile Jonny. :)

yeah, i noticed that after you said it, this is almost a waist, a p4 won't do much in gaming, it is slower than a core 2 duo at 1.8ghz, and i doubt your motherboard has a pcie x16 socket so you won't be able to use it at all, and your psu will NOT power the card

Oh. Should be mentioned this is going in my new build. :P Oops sorry. :D

This computer is a 250 watt stock Dell PSU. Utter crap. Although it has been running solid for 7 years so that's a plus. I currently have a GeForce 8400 GS in a PCI slot, even though I have an AGP slot open. My PSU runs that, but just barely. Whenever I try playing Guild Wars or WoW it always does about 5 fps which may be an issue with the PSU or just a PCI bottleneck. It runs other stuff like Titan Quest ok. Playable at least.

I'm well aware that there is absolutely no card that is worth putting in this old machine. :P Thanks for the concern. :)

I think for a simple gaming PC which is what you seem to be aiming for, I would go even below half of $125 and aim for a Radeon 5570. I use it personally, it handles gaming really well. 1 GB is memory is just about enough to run WoW sufficiently on a PC, as long as your other parts match up, of course. And even then, its power and heat consumption is just low enough to make for a perfect low wattage gaming PC.

I'm building a completely new computer that shouldn't have any issues running higher end cards. I'm going to get a 6770 for now and then upgrade when it's necessary. This is all going into a new computer, rather than my current one which is too old to even consider upgrading.

What about a GTX 465? I found one on Newegg for $130. I haven't found a whole lot of info about the card so I was wondering what anyone's opinion would be on it.

Well since I'm getting a 600w Corsair that shouldn't be an issue. It says it needs 550w. I think it's like a GTX 470 with some parts disabled so it's hotter and more power hungry. Something like that.

The 460 is a revised Fermi chip. The 465 is marginally more powerful than the 460, however you talking a hell of a lot more heat and much more power draw.

Your best bet is the 460, it will destroy a 6770 performance wise

I guess I'll just swallow the price and get the 460.

What's the best manufacturer of it? Asus? Sapphire? PowerColor?
