I'm running a CRT @ native 1280x1024. My current card is just a filler card, it's an old 8500GT. I have a 550watt modular PSU. I have enough power for it.

With that res you could play on a 4670.

I´d go for a 4770 (except the Sapphire blue it´s gimped), 5750 , 5770. What ever is in your budget.
I´m running a 5750 on a 19inch 1440 x 900 and getting 70 to 80 fps in res evil 5 . I was running a 4670 on this res but it started to struggle on newer games.

I used to have a 4650 but absolutely had to upgrade because I have a 21.5" at 1920x1080. That puts a lot of stress on a mid-ranged card.

At 1280x1024 with a 5770 you could pretty much run all games in existence at high settings. :p

the 5770 is 1gb of RAM, though.

What does that mean, yes its 1gb. I said the 4870 512mb. slightly beats it in performance. Tiger has one for 140 bucks. Your choice if DirectX 11 means anything. Buy the time there are alot of DirectX 11 games both the 4870 and 5770 will be old cards.

Let me tell you about video card memory. My gtx 260 has less than 1gb of memory (896mb). Even if it had 1gb, it would only deliver about 2 more fps in-game. Basically, another 512mb of video memory will give you almost no performance gain. In this case, the difference is very small also.

It pretty much depends on one thing: Do you want dx11 support, or not? (By the way, you need at least Vista for dx10 and 11, in case you didn't know.)

Dude, since your running an old crt monitor, just get a 4770, great card, fantastic price on it right now, you can max out any game you want, on crysis, you could probably max the details n crap out, but you have to have no AA.

Thats the card i would go for.

150 bucks is a tricky price range for cards right now. The GTS 250 beats the 4850/5750 over all. The 4870/GTX 260 beats the 5770. But AMD lowered supply of 4850/4870 GPUs to drive the price up to sell the 5750/5770. So it really comes down to what price you can find them and if DirectX 11 is important to you.

Dx11 and Dx10 really aren't of any importance. It's great to make the games look purdy, but I just want to run them at a solid framerate as of now. So instead of the 5770 you'd reccomend the 4870 in my case?
