What is the best graphics card I can get times 2 for crossfire that won't overheat like crazy and have lots of problems... I was either thinking of getting 2 of these, or just getting the x2 2 gig, no matter how I spin it it just seems better to get the x2?

2 of these 540$ HD 4870 1GB

or 2 of these? 578$ HD 4870 512MB

or 1 of thse? 520$ HD 4870 X2 2GB 512-bit (256-bit x 2)

people say the x2 is overpriced but wouldn't I see more performance in JUST the x2? then to get 2 in crossfire(GRRR WHY DO I KEEP SAYING SLI I DON'T EVEN USE NVIDIA CARDS!) which ends up being more expensive and from the benchmarks ive seen would not even give the same performance?? Any suggestions.

the dual 4870 1g's.

oh and SLI is the interface used to connect to NVidia based cards at the same time. Crossfire is what ATI uses.

yea id go with those 2, but remeber u, u still only have 1gb total video memory, just cuz u have 2 1gb cards doesnt mean u have 2gb... i still dont understand y ati uses a 256bit interface with Gddr5 memory...doesnt that kinda defeat the purpose? at least make it a 512 bit.. right?

I'd go with the 4870x2 rather than 2 seperate 4870's just because it makes it more future proof in a way. if you end up needing another 4870x2 in the future for some reason you don't have to plug your motherboard up with with 4 cards if you get seperate 4870's.

I plan on getting this motherboard which only has 2 x16 2.0 slots anyway, also this mobo supports full x16 x16 bandwith right? Just double checking

I think I am gonna go with the 4870x2 unless someone talks me out of it.

to give you my honest opinion, if you arent a die hard AMD ATI fan, i would go SLI with 2 nvidia cards. this is coming from someone whos only owned ati cards since i built my first computer for wow. you are going to have enough grief getting 1 4870 card to cool down, and the drivers are feeble at best. if you SLI 2 evga cards, you get lifetime warranty including overclocking, 90 day step up program in case something else comes out thats better you can ship yours back and pay the difference, and you get overclocking tools with the cards that allows you to turn up fan speed and keep your cards very cool. im not saying you cant cool an ati card, its just that if you ever figure out how to turn the fan speeds up on them, your computer is going to sound like a jet engine.

im not diehard anything, and yes, ati's cards are badass to say the least, but the support for them is pretty crap. nvidias cards are far more supported and easier to maintain, trouble free. for the price of 2 4870's you could sli 2 gtx 260s for the same price and about same performance (4870s MIGHT have a leading edge on gtx 260 but not by much)
