I want a lightweight portable laptop for college. It doesn't need all the bells and whistles cause I'll still have my desktop.

Heres's what I need:

-14" screen would be nice but I'll accept 15"
-I don't need a lot of HDD space
-1GB (I can buy an extra gig seperatly at a later time)
-fast proccessor
-graphics and sound don't matter

I think that's it. I've checked HP and Dell and HP has some good looking laptops at the moment. Please give me your input.

I got my HP from Costco. $800, 15.4", 160GB HD, 2GB RAM, C2D T5300, Intel 950 graphics and pretty fair speakers/sound. You may found cheaper ones elsewhere, but Costco laptops carry a 90 day return policy and a 2 year warranty. I'm making full use of this, considering I've returned one I ordered and plan to exchange this one (it squeals for some reason...)

A word of advice... Get your laptop locally and check on the return policies. I returned my laptop due to a slight squealing noise. My new one booted up once then wouldn't power up after that. So I'm on my 3rd(technically 4th) laptop. This would have been awful if I'd have ordered online. Plus, as I mentioned above, I purchsed mine from Costco which gives you a 90 day return policy and extends the warranty of all their laptops.

I've been thinking about ordering locally. Most stores offer huge rebates on laptops.

Apple Macbook (base model - white) sounds like a great choice for that budget. You can get one on eBay for about $1000.
