Best motherboards for under $150

I need to get a new motherboard, and looking around I have no idea what half the shit means. So i'll just ask you guys...

What's a good m/board to get for less than $150? I'll be using it for games, and also a bit of video editing.

Cheers.

The motherboard shouldnt really be what governs what you do on your PC, thats the job of the processor, for games and vid editing the AMD 64 range are pretty decent. For that you will be looking at a socket 939 motherboard, there is also socket 754 motherboard but they are becoming quickly outdated. Stick with 939.

A suggestion for the motherboard, the Gigabyte GA-K8N Ultra-9, it is a decent price (look it up for yourself), it supports the newest SATA speeds, it supports PCI-e, DDR400. And gigabyte is a good make. Also, it is built on the nForce4 chipset, which kicks ass

In case your wondering where to go in RAM, dont look at DDR II because AMD 64 doesnt yet support. Standard DDR400, i suggest at least 1Gb since you'll be gaming and vid editing, perhaps the OCZ Premier Dual Channel Kit 2x512MB.

As for a video card, well, due to the gigabyte mobos PCI-e support, we can go for highend cards. Maybe an XFX GeForce 6800 GT PCI-E 256MB DDR3. Not too expensive in comparison to some. Check prices for yourself, hope all that helps

So are AMD better than Pentium for video editing?

well it does matter a bit, hence
And what kind of dollars are we talking about - USD, CAN, AUS
but since we know know he live in aus now then your quite right :D

I agree with most of dragons suggestions as to make a good system, however we could do with knowing the rest of your budget before we start suggesting the whole system, more info please bazzil

For the video card I'm looking to spend no more than $200 US and while I'm not quite sure how much it would cost, I'd like to get an AMD the equivelent to a 3ghz P4.

in that case dragons suggestion of a 6800gt is tooo expensive you should be looking at a 6600gt, or a 6800 (non gt) or a X800, X700Pro

Right, processor. The Amd Athlon 64 3000+ Processor - Socket 939.....It runs at a lower clock speed than 3Ghz but is supposed to have the same performance as a P4 3Ghz.

For the graphics card, your not going to get that much performance out of 200 dollars but the Msi Radeon X800 Pci Express 128mb might be a good option. Im not stating any prices because im sure you can find them out by yourself. Everything i have stated though is inside your given budget.

meh, the bfg 6600gt oc is an awesome card for about $200, at retail stores. runs all the latest games at max settings.

If your question is currency specific, provide that currency (if none is provided, it is assumed to be USD).

While it's a good game, that price is also really high for it.
