Hi guys im not much of a computer wiz. but my old acer aspire 5720 is running real slow on the windows vista OS obviously. and i was going to upgrade. now what is a good OS that will suit my laptop the best? all i want to do on it is homework. check facebook/emails talk to my mates etc. i dont want to play games on it i have my desktop for that. but i want it to be real basic and easy to use. also any other sites that help with the un-instalations/instalations of old/new OS's would be awesome.

you can donwload from torrent and use WAT remover :D but it's illegal :D

or you can just reinstall a fresh copy of vista :)

lol :D i don't think so ... :D

as i already said , you can reinstall vista (Cd -key is on the back of your notebook :P )

if you want linux i advise you this one

id advise waiting for the release of 11.04 in april. But either way go ubuntu for usability. Other good ones are fedora, Mint, and RedHat.

If you want to get rid of vista, then you can do it by overwritting it with yuor linux of choice. Id advise keeping it, as a lot of programs are not linux compatible.

The install is easy, you download the the iso file from the website and then burn it to disc which is completely legal and free. Then put the disc in and click reboot. When the manufacture screen is displayed you will notice in the corner it tell you to push a button for boot option, like for example I have a Dell and mine is F2 to go into my boot option. Then click on boot from cd/dvd drive and Ubuntu will start it's install and ask you a some question on how things you want set up and they are vaery easy questions.

I started using Ubuntu two years ago ans comletely stopped using windows over a year ago. It is not hard, many of us can help you find the software you need for your day that you where use to on windows.

ubuntu is very good and the site has a lot of tutorials for it. i use it along with vista (select which one to activate at boot menu)

GNU/Linux OS is good enough for work(not gaming).I find it even better than windows for browsing watching movies etc.Its music ryth, box player is really awesome and it mostly like itunes but way faster on low end comps. You can try the Ubuntu 10.04 or the 10.10.
But if you want to play games then windows because running games on linux using wine is a pain in the a**

dual boot will let you keep everything and install it, you just wont have as much free hard drive space after the install.
