best phone?

is there any smart phone right now thats currently regarded as the best? im looking to get a new phone, im sick of this cheap llittle prepaid flip phone from walmart lol, price isnt really a huge facter considering most of the money will be in the monthly bill so a couple hundred upfront doesnt really make a difference

Depends on what you use it for.

Playing games? Xperia Play, no contest. There isn't another phone out there that can touch this one in that area, whether it's old school games on emulators or new games like battlefield, roboto, or asphalt. Touchscreens are just clumsy when it comes to controls that are anything more complicated than a swipe.
No plans to play any games? There isn't exactly a best, but the Samsung Galaxy S2 is pretty damn close.

The Xperia play is a smart phone with a game pad, that's IT. Everyone seems to think it's its own game console, but it's not, that's what the PSVita is for.

While it's not gonna get hundreds of games released exclusively for it, there are and will be even more developers adding in the Plays controls when they release a game for android. All newer EA games, Roboto, zues arena, minecraft, pretty much anything gameloft, and many more already do, and I must say, it's like comparing playing with your hands to playing with your feet. Multiplayer games? Xperia play owners slay everyone else who's fumbling with their touch screens.

Emulators? I downloaded them on my previous phone, but after failing again and again trying to beat even the beginning levels in Mario I just gave up. With the Play, I get to actually enjoy all the classic games I love, from Final Fantasy VII to Super mario Bros 3, to Zelda OoT, and I get to do it any time I please thanks to my cell phone always being there.

So no, it's not a dedicated game console. It's just a phone that allows you to actually enjoy your games.

As for lack of games, Android recognizes the d-pad and buttons as standard keyboard buttons, so there's quite a few games that support it even if they don't say it. Raging thunder 2 jumps to mind. Otherwise, there's quite a few xperia play optimized games already, with many more to come still.

Right now is a terrible time to buy an iphone if your looking for the best. It's outdated, and the new version is coming out in a couple months.

Of course, buying the newest iPhone is going to be the "best". But it can only be so much better. The iPhone 4 is still an excellent phone. Although, if you have the extra money, just wait until September to get the iPhone 5 like I am :)

Problem with the iphone that keeps it from being the best (imo):

-Comes out once a year, becomes outdated about a month after release.

-Closed file system seriously hinders power users

-Relies on iTunes for transferring information to and from the device.

-Serious lack of customization

I'm not saying it's a bad phone by any means, it's just it's not the best. If you think it is, you're most likely someone who doesn't know a whole lot about computers

- The fact that it comes out once a year doesn't outdate it. The iPhone 4 will last until the iPhone 6 comes out.

-You are correct, we do suffer from power usage, but they are making improvements.

-The new "Cloud" system will make it much easier to transfer data without iTunes. You won't even need iTunes to set up a new iPhone anymore :)

-The lack of customization will get better, although not too much is really needed in a phone, from my point of view. Are you referring to physical or technological design?

- You missed my point. I hear a lot of people call it the "best" phone. Generally there are more than one prerequisite for calling it such. First usually being the latest and greatest in technological terms. The iPhone rarely has the latest technologies in it even when it is released, therefore, making it outdated. Sure it may still work just fine 3 years down the road, but it'll be by no means be great, considering how well iPhone 3G's work now with the latest software.

- They will never add access to the file system. There is no getting better here as far as I can see.

- The file cloud is definitely a step in the right direction. It's still nothing on a totally accessible file system you can drag, drop, and organised to your content.

- I mean technological. Things like, posting a sticky note on one of your homescreens so you don't forget to buy cat food. Like changing the theme of your dock, status bar, and menus to something more you. Or maybe paste a couple of photos on my homescreens to inspire my artistic side. One of my favorites is setting up a tapable homscreen widget for the camera LED, for when i need to find something in the dark, without having to fish through menus to turn it on. The whole every app has an icon and that's all approach is so plain and uninspired.

What is everyone's opinion on the newer window mobile 7 phones? The reviews I read seem okay. Being that it is a new plat form for the Windows Mobile line and they say with what Mircosoft has a lot of things they are promising in its future.

The only thing I see with it is if you have a windows computer, xbox 360 and a zune you have nice intergration of hardware and software.

I dont like the new windows mobile OS. Very clumsy and requires far to many steps to get to where you want to go. For people who dont want Xbox live on their phone its a total pain in the butt too since you cant get rid of that tile on your homescreen and everything downloads to it. I had one for three days before taking it back to get the new Galaxy SII which is awesome! I had the first Galaxy S and it was my favorite phone Ive ever had but I decided for some awful reason to check out the windows phone and as I mentioned, it was terrible!

theres a little bit of a learning curve to using an android phone but i managed to get it, just trying to see what else my motorola photon 4g can do, it seems like an amazing phone but so far i just been using it as a mp3 player heh
