Best photo editing software?

Adobe Photoshop is the Industry standard "CS2" being the latest (and greatest) version.

It's a bit pricey but for a newbie (I apologise if you are not) Photoshop Elements 3 would be a good way to start.

Hope that helps... David.

Photoshop is a neat bit of software in my experience. Even if there is any better software, and I doubt there is, I can't imagine you'd need anything more.

Agreed... Photoshop is the absolute best... There's some free clone out there that is pretty good if I remember right, but I can't remember the name. Was it gimp or something?

I use adobe photoshop 7 and CS. Some people argue that Macromedia fireworks is better than photshop but IMO photoshop kicks fireworks ass.

Fireworks uses vector art, doesn't it? I know some people who actually draw in flash and it produces very smooth images. However, vector art is not what you'd use with say photos. I might be wrong, though. I've never used Fireworks. Maybe I'll try it sometime...

in my experience, photoshop and fireworks are used in different areas, and fireworks is smaller and requires less resource than photoshop does. so if your computer is a little out of date and appears slow, fireworks maybe a good choice.
