Best price Vs performace processor

LOL. I dont think I was nitpicking. I understand you knew what he meant, but somebody that didnt know would be totally confused.

Heck, i confuse myself most of the time, my thought process is so scattered and would make most people's heads explode. I know what i got but have trouble with explaining how i got there.

Glad to see this thread still moving along, but it's moving in the wrong direction. I think we both understand the point of this discussion even though it has gone a bit off topic and I feel highjacked :(

Anyone have any more suggestions on good price vs performance CPU's?
Good overclocking CPU's?
Anything regarding CPU's that doesn't cause a three page disagreement?

Anyone? ;)

I think you really need to give us a budget. then we can better answer your question. without knowing how much you want to spend. its impossible to tell you what is best for that price.

my vote for you is the 2500k and if you dont have money for it now. check out the prices once the ivy bridges come out. the sandy's should drop. just my 2cents

Thanks for the input Dtiao7eb.

I recently put together this system,

Motherboard: ASRock Z68M/USB3 LGA 1155 Intel

Memory link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820178382
Memory: PNY XLR8 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

Processor: Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost)

Also showing a $10 promotional gift card in my shopping cart. ;)

I wanted a quad core or better processor, since I already have a dual core, but. Just about any dual core is better than my AMD 235e 2.71 Ghz.

It will take 5-7 business days to transfer the funds, which may start today (April 9th) but overall the total system cost is $800. It was the same before I purchased the Lancool PC-K62 case which was just over $109 with shipping.

I will be reusing my Antec Earthworks 650watt PSU, HDD, and XFX 5770, more or less just buying what is listed above right now or well, soon. I believe that will last me a little while and in a few months I should be able to purchase a new video card to get more life from it. Overall I think it's my best future proof setup for the time being, getting a cheaper Z68 board to keep the current cost low as $350 ish is all I can really afford to shell out for the CPU, memory, and Mobo.

I could push it lower with the suggested I3 2100 or an AMD chip, but overall I think the 2500k will be my best bet for now. I will get a better cooler later for overclocking but will most certainly overclock from the bios until I get the hang of it.

Later on I will setup a raid array and perhaps get an SSD. I need to look into external or internal multi card readers to be able to post photo's online from my digital camera. I have one 3 1/2 year old son. The camera was a recent trade, Sony something or other. Old lady has it at work with her right now, but I traded an HP DC 7700 full tower system, 1.86Ghz core 2, 2GB's of memory, 160GB HDD for it. I wanted $100 for the system and my step-brother wanted $90 for the camera, I had $20 in the computer tower.
