I wanted a quad core or better processor, since I already have a dual core, but. Just about any dual core is better than my AMD 235e 2.71 Ghz.
It will take 5-7 business days to transfer the funds, which may start today (April 9th) but overall the total system cost is $800. It was the same before I purchased the Lancool PC-K62 case which was just over $109 with shipping.
I will be reusing my Antec Earthworks 650watt PSU, HDD, and XFX 5770, more or less just buying what is listed above right now or well, soon. I believe that will last me a little while and in a few months I should be able to purchase a new video card to get more life from it. Overall I think it's my best future proof setup for the time being, getting a cheaper Z68 board to keep the current cost low as $350 ish is all I can really afford to shell out for the CPU, memory, and Mobo.
I could push it lower with the suggested I3 2100 or an AMD chip, but overall I think the 2500k will be my best bet for now. I will get a better cooler later for overclocking but will most certainly overclock from the bios until I get the hang of it.
Later on I will setup a raid array and perhaps get an SSD. I need to look into external or internal multi card readers to be able to post photo's online from my digital camera. I have one 3 1/2 year old son. The camera was a recent trade, Sony something or other. Old lady has it at work with her right now, but I traded an HP DC 7700 full tower system, 1.86Ghz core 2, 2GB's of memory, 160GB HDD for it. I wanted $100 for the system and my step-brother wanted $90 for the camera, I had $20 in the computer tower.
