best raid config for gaming

what about a RAID 2 config, u have mirrored drives so random access is faster, for games? isnt that correct? what about 2 raptors for example?

thats raid 0 like i have with my 2 raptors. you will mainly see faster load times with programs more than anything. FPS wont really be any better. id just go with a single 74 or 150gb raptor. my HDs are fast tho.

no raid 0 is where 2 drives are hooked up to equal one big drive with the capacity of the smallest drive times the nummber of drives

i know, thats my setup. i thought thats what he was asking in the last part of his question. it sounds like hes looking for a raid 0 setup as hes looking for faster access times.

RAID 0 Gives absolutly no performance increase on games, and RAID 1 will decrease performance because both drives are synched and constantly writing the same data twice over for mirroring.

Get a 10k RPM raptor drive with a fast access time, its your best bet.
 
Those are expensive, if you want a fast HDD get a Gigabyte i-RAM. There literally 1000x faster than a Raptor. You may spend a few $100. For a good one, oh say.......$600+.... They hook up to a SATA cable. Plus, if the power goes out and you PC shuts off, then you can just turn it back on and then your back to where you left off.

id buy 4 of them, load them with 4x 2GB sticks a piece or even 4x4GB sticks.., then put them all in RAID 0...

8+8+8+8=32GB or even
16+16+16+16=64GB :D ultra fast performance OR even more
32+32+32+32=128GB :D :D :D


but do 15k drives on SAS preform faster?
 
No. Its like comparing load times of a super Nintendo and a PS2. Why do you think RAM is a stick of memory and not a disk? (super Nintendo is the i-RAM because its faster, 15K HDD Is the PS2 because it has higher seek times)
