Best router for replacing the old one?

Hi. I am on Virgin National, with a Netgear DGN1000sp. But it is on its last legs - after a while, it gets slower and slower (the router even smells of hot plastic!). So i want to buy a better one. Can you recommend any please? (Obviously one that will right for Virgin national, and preferably 300mbp). Thanks.

Okay, looks like you have a wireless DSL modem. I'd say get a separate modem and router just to make life easier. I'd contact your ISP about the modem part. Once you get that we can start recommending routers.

For an average Joe, a router-modem combo unit is easier, and the providers usually supply them. So it's kinda pointless to spend the extra money on a router. OP, do you game or do anything that requires a low ping? If you do, I reccomend getting a nice router. If you don't, just use the combo unit your provider gives you. Call them and ask them for a new one if yours is broken.

Wow, you scared me (smelled hot plastic...)
TP-LINK router is a good choice. You can afford one with 5 antennas. If cross through 3 walls is better.
