That is a picture of my case. Currently I have the stock AMD CPU fan and it blows up (almost directly into that vent). If I get a Zalman 9700 it will blow towards the rear (directly at my 120mm exhaust fan). So I was wondering if you guys thought it would be good to put fans in either of those vents (top or bottom) and if so if they should blow in or suck air out. I feel like with a Zalman 9700 the air flow will be very front to back and there will be no air coming out of the vents (you can feel it now). Let me know what you think would work best to keep my system nice and chilly.

On the AeroCool model case currently being used here for the moment I added two 120mm on the side cover facing inward. The case has a 140mm front intake that actually made the difference when bringing board temps down with a 120mm rear fan drawing everything out. A Zalman 9500 sits on the cpu. The new build will be in an Antec Nine Hundred model seen with one side vent that looks like a 120 could be placed there. The specifications on that make and model case shows a 120 will fit in the lower front of the case for the intake of cooler air. That's the first place to see a fan besides the rear exhaust. You want that working there to see air moving after being drawn in while hot air gets blown out with the rear 120.
 
so you're saying that with what I have now (intake at the front bottom of the case, AMD stock cpu fan, and exhaust up at the back of the case) if I added a zalman 9700 and wanted to put a fan in that side air duct it would be better to have that fan blowing air into the case so the only exhaust is the rear? The only problem I see with that is that the side duct is slightly closer to the exhaust fan than the cpu is, so it would blow air down and the zalman would just push that air towards the exhaust and the exhaust would suck it out... so would it do anything?
 
The case here is larger with more volume for trying this out. The idea there is simply get air moving around while the 120mm in the front draws the actual cooler air in. Here the case is inside the cabinet of a pc desk where the board temps are down to 31C steadily after a full load even and running day and night. The 9500 currently is facing the front not rear in the case here. There you can try it either way to see which works best for you.
 
ok i didn't know if it was just standard to do one way or the other.... but can i take it off after putting thermal paste off (I'll just have to clean the processor off and reapply?)
 
I was talking about the fan you plan to use for the side cover not the Zalman there. Between the 120 front intake and additional fan on the side cover you should have adequate air flow. On that case you will have to buy one since none are included for that and the rear. The cpu cooler itself usually goes on one way to see it mounted properly.
