best value cpu for a Asus..

...P5E-VM HDMI? Im looking at a Core 2 Duo E6750, Can anybody suggest better for equal or less cost?

I'm not planning to overclock or do any serious gaming, Just general use.

Im looking to run with:

Crucial Ballistix D9's 2GB pc6400 DDR2
Vertex SSD
Windows 7

not sure how much your budget but i ran a search on the e6750 and it came up at $125.00
i found this on new egg at 169.99

both intel core quads clocked at 2.66Ghz and 2.5Ghz respectivly maybe worth spending the extra $35.00 or so dollars

No, the e8400 is the better of the two.

The Core 2 Duo E8400 Processor is overpriced and not worth it. I would get one of these two processors:

Definitely get the Quads. Search them at this site: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php

You'll see that they're much more powerful than the duos.

If you want something <$140, then go for the Wolfdales, but if you want something $140<, then definitely go Quad. If you had an LGA 1156 motherbaord, then you may want to go clarkdale, but in this situation, definitely get the Core2 Quads.
