i want to get a new graphics card as my current one just cant handle the newest games out. i have atm;
128mb NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200, i dont know what other cards would be compatible with my system as i dont know what motherboard i have, but if it helps the rest of my system is;
Dell Dimension 4600
2.8GHz P4 processor
2 x 256Mb DDR ram
1 x 512Mb DDR ram
2 x 80GB HDD
etc...

i dont want to spend much more than £100 on a card, nd i saw this one on eBay for £107 and it was a;

X1600 PRO 512MB DDR AGP ATI RADEON TV OUT DVI HDTV RES

i know that it being 512mb is very good, but thats all i know.

Can anyone suggest a card that is around £100, that will be able to handle the newest games out to date.
cheers

Since you are looking at an AGP card then I am assuming you have an AGP slot. The 512MB really wont make that much of a difference, if you could choose between a higher model card with 256MB it would be better.

It wont be easy to find a card for that price, AGP, that can handle the newest games out. Also with your system, you will be able to play them but not very good quality.

well i found out that i have the AGP one.

can someone tell me which is better of these two, and whether neither of them are very good;

The Crucial RADEON X800 GTO 256MB AGP

The Crucial Radeon X1600 PRO 512MB AGP

or a better card that would be compatible for around $186/£100...??

The x800GTO would be better.

ok, cheers. now another question;

what is the best out of the X800 series, you have;

X800 XT
X800 XT PLATINUM
X800 XL
X800 GTO
X800 PRO
X800 GDDR

thats the lot ive been able to find, only been able to find the X800 XT for a decent price however, the rest are either too expensive or dont seem to come up in various searches.

X800 XT Platinum Edition is best out of X800 series. (I'm not sure if there is an AGP version that cheap)

GTO is the only AGP card that is good and in your budget range, I can tell you now you won't be able to play Oblivion on MAX settings, F.E.A.R. also, probably mid-high but not MAX, Quake 4, Doom 3 without problems on MAX, Call of Duty 2, probably somewhere on mid-high too, and I assumed the graphic resolution would be 1024x768.

thanks, it wud be a huge improvement to even be able to play CoD 2 with a new card as right now, with the lowest graphics its practically impossible to play, unless there is nothing happening then its fine....lol. same with Doom 3 just not quite as bad. Quake 4 seems to run pretty smooth on low - med graphics, and thats at 800 x 600. but would really like to be able to play all the games at 1280 x 1024, on med-high graphics.

The X800GTO can play F.E.A.R at pretty high settings. But you have to patch it up to atleast 1.3 cause when playing the retail version, performance sucks. I could play it barely at the lowest settings with a resolution of 640x480 before I patched it up.

CoD2 works very well at high settings and Doom 3 high, not the highest cause that requires more memory to use for textures.

?Really? Oh thx dude, I'm gonna try that soon, I've never patched it, now that you said that I sure will, and I'll play it all over again. :D
