Best value processor?

I know there is alot of debate about the best performing processor, But does anyone agree on something thats great value for money?

I'd love a AMD Phenom II but as im about to start my first build i'd like to get something for around half the price, Even if i have to get it from ebay.

I dont do alot of gaming but i want to build a media center and play alot of HD content while doing other things like web browsing or recording lie tv.

I'd like quad core but dont know if i'd notice the difference? As alot of ppl only seem to rate quad core for high end gaming.

Well... The cheapest quad core is about $150, so it'd probably be worth just spending the extra cash to get a Phenom II.

My own vote for the highest value processor would be the AMD Athlon. I don't know if it is the right choice for your application but it is pretty hard to beat in terms of processing power for the dollar.

Any1 agree? Is it dual core?

Nice, Quad core and quite cheap now!
Half as good as the phenom? :P

Q6600 is a great cpu i wouldnt say half as good, but i heard the new ones cant overclock worth a ____ phenomII Compares to Q9400,95,9650 sometimes i7 in gaming benchies (sometimes) (((((waiting on Maroon1 to come with his links that kill Phenom))))) (Intel spy) lol :D PS: Just joking around dude

My new q6600 G0 came with a 1.275vid and I am sitting pretty at 3.6ghz with no end in sight. I just don't feel a need to keep pushing it. ;)

64x2 isa dualcore just 64 isnt :D

Guys, nothing personal. I didn't mention anything about the different Athlons. I just said it was my choice for the best value processor available. If you want to criticize that, then knock your socks off. Don't criticize me for not discussing the various models of Athlon individually.

The Athlon 7750 processor would beat the E5200 (or E5300) in processing speed but the E5200 or E5300 would beat the Athlon 7750 in power consumption. I don't think the Athlon 7750 is a whole lot faster than the
E5200 so either is a good choice in my opinion.
