Hi, recently , my ATI 9600 pro 128mb finally brokeafter 3 years. Im looking for a new video card but dont know which one to get. Im am looking for Video Cards that are:

AGP and can perform good in a pc with only 300 Watts.
I might just get the same 9600 pro but if there is anything better please let me know. Thanks
also, whats better pro or XT?

With the total of 300w for a supply don't expect much! The Radeon X1600Pro would be a good one while X850 is a great one for an AGP model. The Radeon 9550 256mb that also has the 9600 chip edges by the 9600 128mb card you were running but is no longer supported. That 300w supply is the main drawback if you are expecting any performance value.

What make and model are you running there? Or is that a prebuilt system? A heftier supply for a custom build will give you more options on newer models. But the X850 model is highly favored.

is it better than 9600 pro?

Is 9600 XT better than the pro one too?

The X850 has been a good one for quite awhile since it first came out. A "slight" upgrade would be the 9800 Pro "All-in-One" model that came out. The higher you go and newer of course for an AGP model the better. That's due to the newer and newer Catalysts that evenly won't work after a certain point on a specific model. The 9550 saw the 5.12 as the last. 6.5 for the basic drivers only update.

Not the x1650PRO I hope!

The 1600PRO/x1650PRO are the worst cards ever. They perform worse then the x800GTO, and much worse then the 7600GS.

its for an MMO. i duno if you know this but MMO's never really have intensive graphics, and when they do theyre a bit less popular cause nobody's computer can handle the graphics.
you're right though the XT is better than PRO but we've already gone through this.

Okay, so im leaning towards the X850, Only 300 watts needed right?
Should i get x850 pro or XT?

Whats the Nvidia equivalent for the ATI 9600 XT? I did a little research and the reason why some of my games used to crash was because appereantly , the ATI cards are not very compatible with mymotherboard and AMD Ahtlon Processor. In order to play games i ALWAYS had to put the thing from "8x to 4x" or else games wouldnt work

What make and model board are you running there? The specifications will show whether it has support for 4x/8x and not limited to 2x/4x. That has to be an older board anyways to be running strictly a 300w supply. Once you go with a newer board, cpu, video card even you'll find your self underpowered.

on the specifications for the motherboard it says
1 8x AGP slot, so it isnt the board, so im assuming is the processor. The card isnt the problem as i could use it on the other pc.

The one thing I mentioned earlier holds true with the 9600 as well as seen on the 9550 that was used on the last build here. Once you go past a certain version of the Catalyst Control Center for a specific older model card you are then forced to run the basic drivers only. The newer versions are written mainly for the latest not the older models.

With the 9550 having the same 9600 chip the Catalyst 5.11 or 12 was the last one that saw no problems. Once you went newer forget the Cat.! The newer versions caused more headaches then it was worth. It's not due to being an AMD cpu there. Before the Intel C2 bonanza AMD was the gamer's choice of cpus. Look in ATI's archives or email tech support for a link. Or simply disable the Catalyst when going to run any games. You can also use the msconfig utiltity to keep it from loading along with Windows.
