Yeah I would agree the 8600 is not that great. It might be for what you're running, but you can get more for the money. Or a lot more for just a little more money.

Anybody know if any of these video cards are supported by Linux Ubuntu 8.04 general video drivers?

Pretty much any card is supported by Linux generic drivers, but you will only get minimal graphics acceleration (no 3D or fancy effects). I have the proprietary drivers installed for my 8500GT right now (running Ubuntu 8.04), though, and they work just great.

An update for all who helped me pick out my first video card. I just bought an MSI Radeon 3650 video card (model R3650-T2D512 OC) for $94.
