Hey guys, sorry im a noob but Im looking to upgrade my Geforce 7800GT.
I mainly play team fortress 2, cod4, cs, and would most likely play newer games if my computer could handle it...

ive got an AMD 64 3700+ 2.2GHZ w/ 1GB dual channel ram.

I am willing to spend a decent amount of money on the card, and possibly some ram because im guessing i need an upgrade of that as well.

Any ideas/suggestions would be great!

Oh and is there any formula for recognizing how bottlenecking might occur?

kind regards,

the jakkel

A 8600GT is not going to be better than a 7800GT. Its not much better than a 7600GT. Do you have a AGP or PCIe slot ?

A 9600GT is much better than your current card. My guess is you'd go up to at least 30+ in heavy action.

*Edit: Actually, a 9600GT would definitely be bottlenecked by your CPU. You'd still see an increase, though...

you could always get a great card to maximize performance and if you plan to build a new computer, use that card that wasn't being fully used in your current system in your new system. Escpecially if its a nice midrange $125-$175 card you could build your system with an SLI/Crossfire configuration and buy another one of the same card and the 2 cards together would be up there with some new higher end cards, if you get a new system that is.

It's when your CPU or when your Videocard is too slow compared to the other counterpart and it can't keep up with the speed, hence reducing the speed and performance of your computer.

well it could be any piece of equipement, hardware or software, ram or VISTA!. Basically a chain is only as strong as its weakest link kinda comparison
