Best way to destroy disk?

Anyone have any good ways to destroy disk? Is just simply smashing it with a hammer the best way to go? It would be nice if there is some way to overwrite them first though but I don't know how to do. Thanks for any help.
 
The best way i would imagine so that nobody can access your files again is to Format the hardrive then because formatting a hard drive does not remove all files in your registry then you should smash it with a hammer. :) :) :)
 
http://dban.sourceforge.net/ dban will wipe it more than good enough unless someones willing to pay A LOT to get it back. There's no point in physically destroying the disk, dban erases it as completely as you can.

Formatting removes the registry. The registry is just a file on the hard drive, formatting removes all data from the drive.
 
There have been soooooooooo many threads on this topic, mostly just provoking people to come up with the most ridiculously complex ideas. Really, if you want a serious answer, the only way to make the data 100% non recoverable is to change the chemical composition of the disks. Easiest way would be to remove them and then take a blow torch to both sides, however I believe large corporations and government institutions use acid baths.
 
if there really was anything so important on this drive that needed you to distroy it in such extreme lengths then you'd already know how ;)
 
How about just pop it in the Microwave for 30 seconds? I don't know if it'll blow out your microwave window as well tho.
Or just toss it in the toilet & repeatedly flush :D
