Best way to get an additional Serial port...

My mobo has 1 serial port but I have 2 serial devices to plug in. I found a serial to USB adapter, but it's kinda expensive. Can I get a PCI card with serial ports for pretty cheap? Would the USB adapter work for all serial products? Which method is better?? Thanks.
