Bestec power supply compatibility

Hi Guys..
I'm New here!

Fell free to move this post if a different category is more appropriate

Just bought a new power supply for my dell inspiron 530s, The original was a Bestec TFX0250P5W X4
I ordered a Bestec TFX0250P5W X3 by mistake
Does any one know whether it would still do the job?
The main/only differences i can see is that the p3 and p5 plugs have 1 wire less on the X3
There also isn't a p4 or p6 plug (not used on X4 anyway)

I would return this and order an x4 if the delivery wasn't so slow!!

Any ideas then?

Thanks
Sam

It should be fine, X4 is just a newer version. Output is the same. Which plugs are the p3 and p5?

Most likely you just ordered TFX0250P5W and they sent you an older version of it. Not many pc's require a TFX unit.

There is no worse case scenario as I said before power output is the same on both versions.

Well.. I have just swapped them over, and the computer still doesn't work
It all started when i had a power cut. The computer wouldn't start when the power came back on, looked at various internet sites, all suggested the same - that the power supply had gone, as apparently thats a common thing with the inspiron's

So now I've swapped the power supply and tried turning it on, when the power cable is plugged into the computer, nothing appears to happen. When the power on button is pressed, the button turns orange (use to be orange when turned off or in stand by). No fans or anything else appears to turn on?
When the power button is held, the orange light then turns off.

Reckon the power cut has killed the motherboard?

Do you have access to a known working standard power supply? You can at least hook it up to confirm if the new power supply is good. Also did you connect both 20/24 pin motherboard and 4 pin cpu power connectors to the motherboard?

I have replaced the small flat battery on the motherboard, Now when power is turned on, the orange light comes on straight away and stays on, even when pressed. but if the power on button is held on, the orange light turns off

Any one know a way to reset the system with out losing data?

Disconnect power cords from cd drive and hard drive and see if the computer at least turns on. If not, I would suspect motherboard/cpu is shot.
