Better AND Cheaper than 8800GT?

I heard that the HD 3870 X is better than the 8800gt, and is also cheaper, can someone verify this? I looked on google/yahoo..but didn't really find what I was looking for, is it even out yet? (I'm tired, and halfway falling asleep, give me a break).

If someone could clear this up...that'd be great.

*EDIT* I'm still looking into it, so if I do find something, I'll update.

**UPDATE** Okay I don't think it's out yet, and also I believe it's speculation at this point, nobody knows for sure, however if someone could still clear this up, that'd be great.

So it is better than the 8800gt...(according to benchmarks)....pricing? I heard $250-$275 range...or is this all speculation at this time?

They don't put it behind much while pointing the problem the 8800GT had with image quality! Again ATI came out on top there as expected. :D

the main difference seen with that model however is the second vpu chip as opposed to a single large one on a performance intended card. The real question on what the HD 3870 X2 card was intended for. The FireGL is not intended for gaming but someone probably made a gaming review comparing one of those to a 7950GTS or whatever.

What was wrong with the 8800gt image quality? I noticed that it said there were some image errors or something with the 8800gt....I'm guessing it's something that a simple driver update can (and will) fix?

Janky drivers? I thought that's what I saw here with the new MSI Radeon HD 2600XT and the Catalyst 7.9 version. :P But that's no suprise since some are having driver problems with the 8800s they rushed after as well.

The R600 sees HD 2400s as well as HD 2600s and HD 2900s. But that simply covers an entire line of cards not one specific model. If I say AGP 9600 do I mean the Radeon 9660 or 9550s with the same chip there? The initial reviews on the R600 placed the R600 edging past the 8800s.

Well there you have it, another disappointing release from AMD/ATI. Although they have managed to undercut Nvidia by reducing the cost of the Radeon HD 3870 by around 12% when compared to the GeForce 8800 GT, we found that on average it was 22% slower. So then in terms of value the GeForce 8800 GT looks to preserve its position as the best value high-end graphics card ever released. The GeForce 8800 GT has proven to be a strong performer, as has the entire GeForce 8800 series ever since it was first introduced over a year ago now.
