Better Choice?

Hey all,
I have been stumped on the decision to get a decent running, but not expensive graphics card that will support my mobo. Im only willing to spend 110 because my mobo probably doesnt support the newer gfx cards that are like 350$
My mobo is an ECS MCP73VT-PM

The motherboard is fine. It has a PCI-E slot, which on the motherboard side is all you need to run a modern graphics card, regardless of cost. The issue here will be your case size and power supply. If your case is too small for the standard size cards to physically fit then you'll be limited to low profile (And considerably weaker) options. If your power supply is weak, then you have pretty much no option but to upgrade that first, because running a power supply on its power limit is a great way to turn your computer into a burnt smelling doorstop.

Yeah...the stock power supply unit won't hold a very good graphics card.

The mobo is fine though. With PCIe, as long as it fits in the slot, it'll work.

Personally I wouldn't run too many usb slots with the stock 250w PSU :P To put it bluntly they're terrible, and are one of the most common things to fail on OEM machines. Putting a graphics card in there, even a weak one, is playing with fire and could become a much more costly choice than just buying a decent power supply in the first place.

You will need a new psu for pretty much any uprgrade, i would recommend that as the first thing, Best i can find with a budget of $110.00 is psu for $59.99 Antec Neo

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371004

And HD5570 for $64.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102875&cm_re=hd5570-_-14-102-875-_-Product

But that comes to a bit more than your budget, what are you planning on doing, gaming?

You can get this for $44.99 after rebate, corsair builder series.

Which will bring it just back into your budget and should do the job.

@ Cardboard Sword But then, what would be the minimum requirements of an old but a decent radeon? I want the best gfx, either though i don't game all the time. Like your profile pic by the way XD

This may sound pointless, but i really don't game that much. BUT, when i do, i play games like Medal of Honor, and im thinking about getting Black Ops.

I'd get a quality 600 or 700 watt psu, and at least a 5770(the predecessor to the 6870) personally. Don't take any chances with a power supply, get the best one you can afford before trying to upgrade to any decent gpu at all. Otherwise you risk losing psu, and possibly other components as well(as you can see in my sig, my psu took out my motherboard with it).

You really can't get good performance on stock power supplies. The companies that make these computers want to put the cheapest parts available in them to maximise profits. 98% of people who buy them will never even think about things like a weak power supply and for those who want more power, they are essentially forced to buy a new machine as most people don't understand much about upgrading them. See what I mean? I'm sorry to say you'll need at least a QUALITY 400w power supply before you can even really consider putting more components in. I emphasize quality, because there are an awful lot of el-cheapo brands out there that lead to you paying someone to blow up your computer.
