better cooling solution

I finally got my new system up and running without a hitch :D
But, I'd like to see better temperatures without spending any more on cooling, especially since this system with four case fans is running identical temps to the 5 year old bestbuy system downstairs, which has a single rear 80mm
temps: cpu 40, mobo 36 ambient: 25
Granted, the arctic silver needs time to settle, but unless it does ten degrees worth of settling, I won't be happy.
So, in the case there is a front 120mm intake, side 80mm intake, and two rear 80mm exhuasts. cpu is stock cooling
is there any quickfix reason that cooling isnt better? or just anything i can try?

Is the side intake above the CPU? If so...

a) Remove the fan.
b) Make a custom air duct with cardboard and tape from an empty box of cereal.
c) Get a pair of your mum's/sister's tights, cut up, and stick over the side hole.

I actually just tried that about 30 minutes ago, except that I left the intake fan in since from what I could tell it was blowing the same way as the cpu fan anyway.

one thing for sure, don't expect your newer PC to be as low as the old one downstaires. YOur system probably works harder.
But post a opicture of your case with the side panel off, then we can see better.
