Better Internet connection upstairs.

Hey guys. I'm on a wireless network. We all know that the signal gets weaker the farther you are from the router. My family all have laptops (except me) which they use in their rooms and the internet connection there isn't as good as what I'm getting in my computer which is only like 4 meters away from the router. I've heard Linksys has a "RANGE EXPANDER" Is that what I need? I'm planning to put the range expander in the common room on the 2nd floor. I went to a computer store and asked if they had the range expander in stock, but they only had the Linksys Speed Booster. A guy beside me overheard my situation and told me to buy another router instead and use it as an access point. Would that be better? He didn't explain further as he was in a hurry.

If you guys can help, can you explain it step by step? I'm a noob when it comes to wireless connections.
 
Hey i have a linksys router 2.4ghz and i got internet in my house even outside same speed everywhere "excelent" i think you should get a new router. I heard Linksys is the best for that kind of stuff.

i am using a linksys router 2.4ghz. forgot to mention that. the connection upstairs isn't bad but it could be better.

help please. linksys range booster or another linksys router to act as an access point?:confused:
 
i would suggest a second router....only becuase that's what i'm doing for the exact same reason and i now get full signal everywhere in my house....

I have use a range booster before at someone elses house and it seemed fine but i'm not 100% on how well they work.

also...i would suggest a second router if you are comfortable (or know how) to configure routers as it isn't as easy as plug in and go (it only KINDA is lol), but a range booster if you just want a quick fix

seriously?..

Wireless signals do not permeate all materials the same. If your house is made of all wood, and is small then sure it might get a good signal. But people have small and large house composed of MANY DENSE materials. You cannot assume that 1 LINKSYS router will give perfect reception all insde and outside a house. Please come back to planet REALITY...

they CAN DO the same thing...but they aren't entirely the same thing...the router would ahve to be configured to do what the range booster does....it's not as simple as plug in and go
