Better WLAN signal?

Hello, this time my friend asked me about WLAN stuff...
he has an pretty new Laptop, so it has integrated WLAN etc.
but his room is most far away from the Router, so his network isn't whole the time working, signal (Very)Low or Not Found...
so he asked me if i know is there any way to get it better. well tbh. i don't really know, so that's why im here (he didn't make this topic bcuz his english suxx)...
the only thing that came up in my mind when he asked this question was... an WLAN antenna thingy...
are there like any WLAN Antenna things that can be like putted in USB and then the signal would become higher? or how could it be increased (WLAN Signal)?

There are a few things you can do.

Move the wireless router closer
Make sure the router is up high and not being obstructed
Get an external USB wireless adapter with a swappable antenna

1. i don't think it can really be moved anywhere.. don't ask me why, but it will stay on the place it's now...
2. yes it's pretty high up..

add. does a laptop get better signal from an external USB WLAN Adapter, or from it's integrated wlan? or is there any difference?
