BF2 Loading Times

OK people as for the "right equipment" my PC is in my sig and I surpass recommended... but yes Blue- it does not take NEARLY as long is single player, but these 30 secong load times?? HOW!!?!?!?!

Well it might speed up loads times. When your hard drive becomes fragmented it means that information has scattered itself all over your hard drive. Think of it like this... You see a file by one single icon but its information becomes broken up and then scattered. When programs load etc. the hard drives head jumps all over accessing the information. Defragin your hard drive in basic terms puts that information back together where it belongs. Therefore the hard drives head doesn't have to travel so far back and forth looking for that info it seeks.
 
K started it, how long does this take?? Seems like a while... been like 10 mins. its only at 3%...

Really depends on a few things. System would be one but as you have a decent computer then that should not be a factor. Another would be how much stuff you have on your HD.
 
Ifyou've never defragged it can take a very long time. It's a good idea to do it often, take advantage of the "scheduling" feature and set it to maybe 2AM so when you are sleeping it does it and won't interrupt anything.

It just takes pieces and bits of info/files that are spread out across your harddrive and puts them in "closer" proximity with eachother. This makes searching/accessing/read/writing of information faster if the drive doesn't have to search as "far" for the information. At least, that's how I see it.
 
I've never heard of such load times until now. I would suggest people start looking into why it takes 5 minutes to load a game and fix it :P.
 
I defragged my HDD and now it loads faster.... its still now 30 seconds (more like a min. or so) but way better than it was.
