BF3 Red screen bug

Hey guys!

When I play online (I don't play single player on BF3 yet) I've been getting this red screen bug... It happens randomly after 20mins or an hour of playing and then restarts the computer.

I don't know what's wrong to be honest.

Computer is:

Win 8.1 with update 1 x64
I3-2100 3.10 GHZ
6GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 7850

Any idea?

Do you have security essentials installed?

If not, look to power and cooling. Either your card is not getting enough power, too much or is overheating (particularly the VRAM).

Use MSI Afterburner to crank up the fan to max over 60oC, noisy, but if you're like me you use headphones when gamin and you wont hear it. That should solve it.

If not, after ensuring your have the latest drivers for your HD card, post answer to the first point or post what PSU you have.

Played for an hour today and nothing happened...

Do you think this is hardware related? People online were talking about hardware acceleration, could that be that?

I'll download MSI Afterburner, will tweaking this harm the computer if not done properly? (I have no knowledge on that subject...)

I will run both while running the game tomorrow.

Does it keeps a log of the temp in case I get the Red Screen bug?

Don't think so. Try and run the game in a windowed mode with them both open so you can see how hot each is getting.

CPU shouldn't exceed about 80C. GPU shouldn't exceed about 100C or so.

This definitely sounds like it could be the symptoms of an overheating GPU or bad PSU. You have a Corsair don't you?

Have you also tried reinstalling your graphics drivers? I'd recommend downloading the latest Catalyst Drivers from AMD, then using Display Driver Uninstaller (I think this was called Driver Sweeper once upon a time) to remove your existing driver (run it in Safe Mode), then download and install the latest drivers which you downloaded earlier.

Download Display Driver Uninstaller here: http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/display_driver_uninstaller_download.html this worked very well for me the other week when my Catalyst Drivers got completely screwed up and I needed to install the latest ones. :)

It bugged twice today, it wasn't that much heating, was way below the limit you gave me. I'll try tomorrow with lower specs, that might change a thing. If not I'll reinstall drivers (in safe mode).

Yup try reinstalling the drivers. Use DDU to remove your existing ones and the install the new ones...

I played it today, got a temp and core usage for the GPU:

62°C max and 98% of core usage...

I'll do the same for the CPU right now :)

OK so it's probably not overheating then. Have you tried reinstalling the AMD Catalyst Drivers?
