Big Difference?

Yeah, 2GB would be nice but it's too much money for that and the rest of the computer at the moment, maybe in the future when I save up again :P

I'll go with the OCZ memory then, thanks :)

EDIT: If I came to add more RAM would I have to get OCZ memory again or could it be any type?

The best move when upgrading memory is to go with matched pairs for the dual channel capability there. Generally if you are planning to upgrade memory from a certain amount at a later date when going with a pair of 512s you have two choices to see a 2gb total. One is simply adding two more 512s while the best results are generally seen when replacing the first two 512s with a pair of 1gb dimms.

If you go for the 2gb now you save time later if you happen to buy two more 512s that turn out to be incompatable with the first. OCZ while being a top brand also likes a top price. The other link was for 2gb of Kingston ValueRam for the lower total price of 2gb. For slightly more you could also go with 2gb of a faster memory like the kit seen at http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/91124/rb/26133594054 if the new board supports it.

I'd like to get 2GB of RAM at the moment but it's too expensive for me :(

I could buy a 1GB stick of OCZ and then get another sometime in the future?

Yes you could buy 1GB now and add another 1GB stick later. I'm a little late reading this but you do know that the RAM you have linked is DDR2 while the K7 board in your sig is DDR right?

I'd say 1x1024 is better because it leaves more slots open for later upgrading and 4 sticks rules out 1T command rate (not a deal breaker by any means but 1T would make it faster).

That corsair stick is faster and has the same timings, so yes it's better :)

Great, Thanks a lot for your help :)

I thin I'll leave 2GB for now as I don't think it's really needed at the moment :)

I've seen somewhere that the Corsair memory has lights on the top, is this true?

Also, Is it really worth getting 2GB do you think, or is 1GB enough for now?

Obviously it all depends on what your going to be doing....If you get a 1gb stick and it's not enough it's easy to buy another one. Whereas if you buy 2gb it wouldn't be so easy to send it back and get just a 1gb stick would it?

That's true, I can allways get more in the future if it's needed.

Mainly gaming and internet, so 1GB for now I guess.

Some corsair RAM has LEDs on the top, that particular stick does not. 1GB should be enough for now, if you have Vista you may want 2.

Great, Thanks, I don't have Vista but I do game a lot so, I'm ... Hmmmm.
I guess I'll have to think about it a bit more.

Besides the Corsair xms series memory you can also look at Kingston's Hyper X or some by Mushkin. But I know you won't be planning any heavy ocing with the new build. With a single 1gb dimm you would be running in the single channel not dual channel mode. The thing to remember when going to add a second dimm later is to match it with the same make and type.

The recommendation often seen is to buy two from the same manufacturer's batch even it you don't get ones pretested in a matched pair. Since you are heavy on the Vista themes at the moment you will probably end up with one version sooner or later. So keep a few doors open for upgrade there.

I think I'm going with the XMS series, also, if the prices of the Core 2 Duos come down enough, I'll use the money I saved to buy another stick of RAM.

Heavy on the Vista themes, what me :P
Yeah, I know, I'll leave everything opne. :D

While you are having fun with the Vista themes I will be trying to work with the real Vista installation here.  :P First the sound problems and BSODs came up and some more problems seen after Creative released their first update that lacks support for EAX games. brilliant!

Corsair itself has always been one of the gamer's favorites so that should work out for you. Just remember to go with the same same model number when adding the second one in. You don't want to add up mixing speeds.

Now that I've decided to get the XMS2 series, do I buy 1 x 1GB stick or 2 x 512MB sticks?

Could I buy 2 x 512's and then add a 1GB stick of the same series and type?
