Big exe's-> computer freezes

For example, I run the FEAR Combat game and my computer freezes up and I have no choice but to restart it. Help?

By the way my computer is

Nvidia 6600GT 128MB AGP
PC 2700 RAM 1 GIG
Amd Athalon XP 3200+

That doesnt sound bad, but what is your HDD? that could be a problem.
