BIG Ipod Shuffle problem...

hi all. ive had my 1st generation ipod for over a year now.. recently i was playing it, paused it, left for a few minutes and it wouldn't work anymore. later i noticed it blinked 'green, orange, green orange' just above the control buttons whenever i tried to play or fast forward.. and on top of that, windows isn't recognizing it, which is my biggest problem as i have a lot of data on there i need for work. it recognizes there's a 'removable drive' but not the name of it or the contents. itunes won't recognize it either.

does anybody know what i can do to fix this problem? atleast so i can access the data on it?

i tried updating it using the 0.3 updater for different ipod models. didn't work. i tried using the reset utility that restores the ipod to factory settings. but that didn't work either. neither of those programs recognized that an ipod was connected..

ANY help with this would be really, REALLY appreciated. atleast so i can just access the data on it. i don't care if i can't play it anymore, i just need that data the most. ANY help is really appreciated.. thank you...

I'm not really sure that there is a way to get the iPod back functioning without erasing the data contained on it...

One thought I had, but I could be totally wrong, but is to reset it. Not a full reset, but just a "soft reset" I know my Sony actually has a reset button. Maybe if you could somehow open yours and remove the battery for a while. I don't think that'd harm anything or loose your data... But then again, I've not messed too much with these.
