My mom has an old pentium 2 laptop that had windows 98 on it which refuses to boot up.

My problem is as follows... I need to create a Windows 98 start up disk, but on a cd instead of a floppy. Heres why...

You can only put in a CD drive OR a floppy A: drive in. Both can not go into the laptop at the same time.

I booted off a floppy (1.44 disk) windows 98 start up disk with cd support and was able to format the hard drive. However I can not switch over to D: drive (cd) to run setup of new windows 98.

Is there a way to copy the windows boot disk to the c: drive and have it run at start up so I can have my cd inserted?

I did copy all the files off of the floppy onto the cd. I changed boot order to boot from c: but it is not working.

Please advise me. I have no problem calling you long distance to resolve my issue and save face with my mother.

My goal is to reinstall windows 98, but need cd drive support.

He means that he cant have both in at the same time. Only a floppy drive or a CD drive. He can boot it up with a flopy disk but then he cant switch it to install windows 98 as it comes on a CD.

YES RAMBO i got that bit, but what i was wondering is WHY it will not let you change from A: to D: ?.

(Ive never exp this prob before)!.

You might have t reinstall the xp because of the hardware change. I'm not sure about the rest. Because he can only have a cd rom drive or a floppy drive installed in the laptop at one time. The only way he can change from his floppy drive to the cd rom drive is to reboot the computer.

Try and boot off the cd some computers have the boot files on the computer so you can boot from the CD.
