Big Problem Regarding My Modem

I have a really bad problem with my DSL modem. Lately when I've been trying to run programs such as AOL Instant Messenger, Internet Explorer, or Mozilla Firefox, it's been going at a really slow rate. I don't understand why though. The programs are popping up fast and everything, it's just that it doesn't want to run as fast as they appear. I've tried to disconnect all the DSL wires and reconnect them, but it doesn't seem to work. I also noticed that the DSL modem itself was getting quite hott because I've left it on for so long. So, I decided to unplug the whole thing and let it sit for a while. In doing so, it ran alot smoother when I reattached everything but only for a short period of time. It's really starting to aggrivate me. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem? I'd highly appreciate it.

Like you said, it is most likely heat. I dont know why your modem would over heat beecause it should be able to run it 24/7. The only thing i can think of is to stick it next to a house fan, or somewhere that is cooler.

Yeah I was thinking the heat too. It's strange that a modem would overheat because they're supposed to run all the time like you said. But yeah, I'll try putting it next to a fan. Actually, I tried blowing through all the vent spaces that were on it to make sure there wasn't any excess dust in there. Anyway, if the fan trick doesn't do it you'll see me complain again haha. Thanks for the input.

Yea no problem. I have this problem occasionaly when i go on a downloading spree, but i unplug the modem for about 10 minutes and it works fine again.

See the thing I don't understand is this. My mom was on the computer the other day and she said it was running pretty slow. So, I ran the ewido scan, disk defrag, and disk cleanup. Usually everything's running swiftly after that. But this time it was really slow. So, I decided to delete some things I didn't use anymore to free up some disk space. Even after I did that it still seemed to run slow which amazed me because I think I have like 97% free disk space. So basically, I'm stumped lol.

Well all programs that require internet connections. Like I said, AIM, Firefox, IE... stuff like that. Other programs run perfectly fine. So it's got to be the internet connection. As soon as the CPU turns on though, I go right to the task manager and close everything under my user name, then proceed from there. I do this as a safekeep just so I know I don't have any programs running in the background and slowing me down.

No I don't have wifi. I have no idea what that is. I do however have p2p music downloading programs. I just deleted my Limewire yesterday and downloaded the Warez program. However, I chose to unshare my whole computer so other people couldn't upload files from me. But I dont think that's the problem because I've had these programs before with no trouble.

Yeah, again, i am suggesting heat. Turn off your modem for about 10Minutes, then place a house fan next to it. I would think that would eliminate some of the heat. Anyways, i got to go to school now, peace.

Haha I'm already in school, in the computer room actually. Well, thanks for your advice man I appreciate it. Ttyl.
