Big Problem!!!!!

My PC switches off without prompting. Initially I thought it was a security problem as it only became an issue after installating McAfee (came as an bolt on with new broadband suppllier software) but have now changed my mind.

The majority of the time it happens when I'm running certain programmes, burning cd's or dvd's or security scans. It also happens on start up from time to time.

When the PC is restarted, everything is fine. Browsing the net, running general microsoft programmes, mailing does not affect it.

Could it be the PSU or maybe the processor itself? Please help...

Yes, i agree it is most likely a PSU problem. If u doubt it, then post a HJT log in the security section of this website:

After doing the scans in the Basic Malware Removal sticky , if your problem persists, please take the following steps.

Download Hijackthis.
Install the program to the default directory.

Run Hijackthis and select "Do a system scan and save a logfile".
Copy and paste the log into a new topic here.

Don't name your thread "Hijackthis log", name it as something descriptive to the problems you have.

Give a description of the problems you are having, in as much detail as possible.

Do not fix anything unless advised to do so.
