BIG Windows internet problem

Hello all,
I am having quite a big problem with my new Sony Vaio Laptop. Internet Browsers can easily connect to the internet no problem. BUT, nothing else can. For Example, When i try to update a anti-spyware program, it says "Could Not Connect to the Main Server". Same with my Steam Games, Same exact error message. Any help? oh yes i already tried contacting comp USA and they said they dont deal with software errors. Same with Microsoft.:confused:
 
yes i am but i cant seem to turn it off. I go into the menu for it select the off button and push apply but the firewall stays on. Any other suggestions?
 
It sounds like its not off. When you turn it off do you get a little popup notification in the lower right part of the screen with a notification that windows may be at risk becuase its off..?
 
Try uninstalling your firewall and installing a new one, preferably Zone Alarm, pro or basic, assuming of course that's what you're not using rihgt now. Make sure you install Zone Alarm first, so you're computer's not vulnerable while you're uninstalling your firewall.
 
What you have to do is set the firewall to allow your anti-spyware program to get an internet connection or allow it to connect to a server. Once you got that done, I would recomend you get Zone Alarm or Comodo as your main firewall.
