BIOS Beep - No Network.

Hey guys, i have 2 weird things that have happened to my computer recently, i dont know if they are related at all, but they could be and i was hoping that someone could help.

When i start my computer, it usually omits 1 short beep from the bios, recently it has been making 2 short beeps and then just continues as normal.

Once loaded everything appears to be ok and works fine, all but the internet... The icon in the bottom right corner displays local connection only and sometimes switches to limited or no connectivity but never displays that i am actually online.. I dont know whether the change in bios beeping and this internet issue are linked....

When i look at the back of the computer where the Ethernet cable is plugged in, i see a green light, and a flashing orange light, so it is definatley plugged in and appears to be working...

I have tried the connection from 2 different comuter partitions so i dont think its any settings ive changed, ive tried on XP and Windows Server 2008.

As well as this i have tried another computer with the same cable and it works fine, so i know that the cable is not damaged.

I really hope that someone will be able to help me here, looking forward to your replies.

Thanks again!

David.

Are you saying that the internet works on server 2008? If so, it sounds like a driver issue, try updating it.

I have managed to resolve the bios beeping issue, it was that the time was set incorrectly, that was all.

The computer that is having the internet problem has 2 partitions, 1 with windows XP and one with Windows Server 2008, it does not work on either.

I have tried a completely different computer with the cable to check that its not a faulty cable and it works.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I probably will just do that yes :)

Its only really a file server, but its also the first computer i ever had, its something i will probably just slowly update forever, regardless, its probably something i will never throw away.

Its still a pretty awesome system, this is actually the first problem its ever had relating to hardware problems, and it must be 8 years old or something like that.
