BIOS boot file

First, sorry if I posted this in the wrong place; I don't know where to post something about the BIOS. Now, my problem:

I have a CD that I want the computer to boot into. I want to know what type of file the BIOS boots, and where that file has to be, if any.

I already set the BIOS to boot from CD.

Thanks.

browse the cd and search for it !
file name depends on the application.
but usually there is a folder called boot

The bios is programming stored on the system board's EProm chipset. You don't need a file to load off of any cd. That is controlled by the boot order in the bios settings which you have apparently already done. If the disk is bootable you would simply choose the "exit and save" option when leaving the bios if pressing the F10 key doesn't work. You will generally see a prompt asking if you want to save any changes made. There you simply press the Y key to give the yes answer. At that time the system will restart and boot from the disk as long as the cd rom is chosen as the first or only boot device in the boot order.

If it your computer boots from it while it starts up, then it is bootable. If not, then change the boot order in your bios so the CD drive is first. If it still doesnt boot, it is not bootable.
You cant do much after it has been burned, so you would have to make a new cd that is bootable. Deep burner is a good, free program that burns ISOs that are bootable.

OK

It is a CD-RW, so I will erease it and re-burn everything. If I continue having problems, I will post them here.

Thanks.

You may have some problems booting off of a rewritable disk. Once you have what you need making the disk bootable is another matter where cd-rs are much better due to the format there.

That's good news. In some cases you would have to go with a cd-r burn made bootable to see results. Now that you have a working disk make a backup. :)
