I am going to go back to try and isolate which BIOS change did this. Basically, I made a few tweaks in my CMOS setup utility, since my motherboard is only about 2 weeks old and I've left everything in the default settings until now. I wanted to explore all of the fancy BIOS enhancements advertised on the motherboard's box.
I changed:
-Turned on Q-fan for CPU fan (chassis Q-fan still off)
-Turned on ESD guard (this feature is non-existent in the motherboard book, oddly, but the gist of it is found in this video).
-Turned on Asus Expressgate w/5 second timer
After this, the game I've been playing, Witcher, was unacceptably slow at full settings & at 1920x1080 . I went back and undid the BIOS changes and the game runs perfectly. Anyone heard of ESD guard slowing things down? Perhaps Expressgate?
