Bios Locked Out

Here's my issue here: Someone (x-wife i think) put a password on my bios settings. is there any way that i can reset it to where there is no password?

Is your computer custom built or something like Dell or HP? Some of these have backdoor passwords that you can try, but gotta know if your pc is of a particular model or brand.

no this is pure custom. im hoping for a reset option. i cant find anything inside of control panel or anything that has some bios access options. im so lost, any ideas or wanna just throw random back door passwords out for fun attempts?

The easiest way is to look at the manuel and it's jumpers..... Setting the jumpers to a certain setting can reset the password and/or CMOS (Bios settings...) Careful to set them right though.....

Sorry for the double post but too lazy......

For a Compaq (and maybe for an HP) you can reset the password through jumpers...

thx bumble. the manuel isnt helpful, so i guess i will throw the jumper and hope for the best. if that doesnt work, maybe one of computerhakk's random passwords will work or something.

I would look through the manuel again or check online.... Sometime alll you have to do is remove jumper instead of switching them....... I don't what will happen if you set the jumpers wrong......

no labeled settings. its up and running. reset worked. password disabled. good call. much thx to you. gonna reboot though, lost some processor speed with the jumper switch. was running 2.2, now at 2.1-ish. odd, but whatever. back in a few

You may have cleared the CMOS in the process , so you have to set them back to whatever values you had them before..... Your processor speed may be affected if you had it overclocked before in which is now reset to it's stock speed.....

well, i had never overclocked it actually. stock was 200mhz running me at 2.2Ghz. i set it up to 203 and am now at 2.23Ghz. i gotta go find someone that can tell me how high i can take this thing without burning it. i think newegg had some reviews on it. but everything works so far.
