Maybe your battery on it is weak?

Check it, it has to do with something as that!

;)

If you don't have a multimeter onhand simply spend the $2 at Radio Shack or where they sell watches and calculators. It never hurts having a few spares lying around anyways. The CR2032 is the most common size of 3v lithium battery used. If you have been running the system for a year or longer then I could see where a battery would grow weak causing the loss of cmos information.

but pc eye...i haven't used this mobo for more than i year...ive had it for like...a week lol....could there b another problem other than battery? ill look into the battery thou thanks

I had a battery go suddenly after a year of use one day when "nothing" was seen when starting it up that day. In the few weeks prior besides the oncoming cpu fry from a failed fan the initial startup and a few other things acted odd. Look at battery and see if it matches up with a CR2032 first before buying anything. You may have to bring it with you for this.

Besides a weak battery how new is the bios version? Sometimes you have to go for an update due to the loss of bios information. Seeing the primary listed suddenly as a 3rd device does make you wonder. Do you remember eaxctly what drives were installed when the board was last used?

You can also try loading the optimized defaults and then make the adjustments you want and see if those are maintained for a period of time. If the same or some other oddity appears suspect battery first. That's the low cost item besides a need for a bios update.

ok so let me try to understand some of that lol....

for bios verision...im clueless...

its not listed as the 3rd device but rather the third...slot of my "ide hard ware" soemthing like that...

this mobo is brand new (or at least i hope) i got it from direct canada about a week ago

One place to look in the bios under boot order or boot devices is to highligt the "hard drives" item and press the enter key. That will show the hard drives both ide and sata which you only have the one Raptor model. There you can use the + and - keys to change the position and move it to the top of the list seen there if you have that option.

With multiple drives you can rearrange the order there to have one drive set as the default. You may see cardbus or something on that idea at the top instead of the Raptor you have. That would set the boot order there. Then you simply set the first boot device as hard drive instead of cd rom. Refer to the user manual for the board on this and take a look. http://america.giga-byte.com/FileList/Manual/motherboard_manual_ga-965p-ds3p_e.pdf

Page #38 shows how to move around in there for this as seen in the image taken from the online manual.

o ya thanks but the boot order isn't whats killing me pc eye...its that my computer doesnt like...recognize its there as soon as it boots, then i have to go into my bios under standard bio settings or something liek taht...the first option...and i gotta search for my hard drives....but it shouldnt b like that...shouldnt it just recognize its there automatically? thanks

How old is the case there? One thing to know about sata and even Raptor drives is that the ide controller when active will override sata controllers by default. But a weak battery on the board can also see some strange things happen.

Once you have the drive set as the first and exit the bios by the F10 or choosing the exit and save option upon leaving the settings should be remembered. But if you quickly choose the exit and not "exit and save" or are seeing a weak battery not holding up the cmos information...?

hmm then mayb it is a weak battery....

age of case....well if ur talking about model..iunno...how long have i had it? less than 2 weeks....

wen u said that ide controllers might override sata controllers by default....that is prob the case here because my dvd drive is still ide...and my hd is sata...but ive changed the bios many times...so if this is the case...would u like just take a guess and say its my battery not retaining info? thanks...

First thing since that is a new not old system is to look over the troubleshooting FAQ section at the support site. Often the first thing a vendor will tell you is update the bios if a newer version is out. That may have a fix for this. But check to see if the sata is listed on top of the list above cardbus when going into the boot device section and pressing enter once you have "hard drives" highlighted. If that opens up to second screen the one or more hard drives(on your system one) you would follow instructions for setting the sata as the first by moving it to the top of the list seen there. A weak battery on a new board? Possible still while not being so likely. You never know however. First look over the information gathered from the support site here. Which revision is the board? This was from the 3.3rev.

If operating system does not support native mode, such as Windows ME/9X, please disable this option. IF you use Windows XP or 2000, you can disable or enable this option.
