BIOS OCing vs. GUI OCing

I tried OCing through the BIOS and wouldn't let me OC by even a couple MHz so I tried EasyTune5Pro for my Gigabyte mobo and it OCed to 3.0GHz without any problem. Even CPU-Z showed it at 3.0GHz. Is it really at 3.0GHz??? Can someone tell me how GUI based OC utilities work?

From what I've heard, and m own personal experience the BIOS overclocking is much more stable and reliable. The GUI based OC'ing programs have really gotten a bad name, but seem to be making a come back, as many mobo's ship with OC'ing software now.

I don't see how they're unreliable. I used EasyTune5Pro to OC to 3GHz and it runs stable. I even ran Prime95 and it's still stable.

Right like I said they seem to be a lot better than they used to be, but the BIOS will always be the first choice for most users.

I've had problems with overclocking too, but the fact of the matter is the overclocking programs simply change the settings in the BIOS, so really there is no difference. Idk though maybe I'll try one of the programs.
