BIOS or Software OC'ing?

I've read it both ways, some say the BIOS is the best and some say Software is just as good. AI Suite II that came with the MB seems to have everything I need to do it, but if it's not as reliable I'd rather stick with BIOS. What are your experiences and which do you prefer?

Also which method do you use? multiplier, core clock or combination?
 
i have an oem and they locked the bios and i can't access them, i'v tried almost every way, but i also have a locked multiplier too, and a bad chipset, but i am still able to achieve a .3ghz overclock on a pentium dual core et2210 2.2ghz @ 2.5ghz, it works fine for me, and can check stability and all instantly instead of rebooting every time i go up 5mhz, just type 226 over the stock 200 and apply and done.

That's what I thought, it just seems to make more sense. It's a bit more intimidating than I expected, I know it's just a few settings, but I'm just so nervous I'm going to do something wrong and my board will start shooting the CPU and RAM out of the board like someone spitting out bad milk...lmao.

My main concern is OC'ing the RAM with the CPU, like should I set it to 1333 to avoid any stability issues? I've read that if I only use the multiplier that the RAM could end up bottlenecking, or something similar I can't remember the exact issue, I've read so much it's kind of blurring together. I got to make a little cheat sheet or something to make sure I separate the settings and things to watch out for.
 
i remeber seeing that the best overclocks that go the highest have a lowere multiplier and i hightened fsb, along with a little bt more on the volts.

Dont worry about it, unless your going for the most extreme you can get. Using the X to overclock will leave your bus and memory at default speeds. Cant tell the difference in the real world with out a benchmark. Plus all you will have to worry about is the CPU voltage and your temp. Overclocking your bus will only improve your L3 cache speeds. The HT is nowhere near being over saturated anyway.

Cool, thanks. I don't want to go too crazy, just about 3.8ish. Also dl'ed MSI Afterburner for my GPU, not sure if it's worth it but going to give it a shot. My intent is more focused on actually learning about this stuff rather than getting crazy speeds, I'm in school for Computer and Electrical Engineering so learning this stuff will help me out later.

Also just one more question. I've noticed in BIOS that my CPU temp gets to about 40ºC when just looking around and when I'm in windows AI Suite and AMD Overclock have it at about 32ºC, any particular reason or is the monitors in those programs just wrong. With that Zalman Cooler it shouldn't be getting that high just idling(the BIOS temp) and I'm wondering if I should re-paste.

One might be the mother temp. sensor, the other the CPU onboard temp sensor. Install PC Wizard and see what it says the temps are. It will show both.
 
PC Wizard says the same as the other monitors, 33C for the CPU and 26c for the MB. In BIOS the MB temp is the same but the CPU temp is around 38-40C. I've got the CPU to 3.9 and staying stable through some short stress tests, gotta run a long one to make sure and I'll be happy and leave it alone.

Ran the CPU Benchmark in PC Wizard and got 81764, how is that?

When it comes to temps should I be looking at CPU temp or each core's temp? I've got my CPU to 4.0GHz and it's idling at about 34ºC but each core has a temp of about 37ºC.
