BIOS - to update or not to update?

So, to keep it short. I want to upgrade my CPU.

Here is a board I have: P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3, and here is a CPU support list.

The CPU I want is Intel Core i5 3570K. Now, I know, I know - it is Ivy Bridge, not a Sandy Bridge, but it is still on the support list, if the BIOS is 3202. Well, so it happens that mine is:

So, it should all be fine, yes? But there are newer versions of BIOS for this board, should I just leave it as is, since the BIOS I have is the one listed as necessary on t support page, or should I upgrade still to the newest?

Your bios version 3202 mentions updated cpu support, but so does bios version 3402.

Have you ever done a bios update before ?

Bios updating is much simpler and more reliable, most manufacturers have there own bios update software which checks it is the correct bios.

So as long as you do not get a power cut during the update you should be fine.

Download the most recent bios version 3603 make sure it is the correct one for your system, one is for xp,vista and the other is 7 & 8.

Put the file on an empty flash drive then enter the bios and you should see a utility called asus ezflash.

Updating the bios adds support for more processors, but it does NOT take away any support for any previous processors.

It worked! I upgraded the BIOS, like you said, slotted in a new processor and that's it!

I also took the opportunity to switch from GTX 570 to GTX 760 (nice discount + got Batman Arkham Origins for free). Together with the new processor (old one was i3 2120) I saw performance rise of 65-70%. Nice!

Thanks a lot for the help!
