bios update worth it?

My laptop manufacturer shows a newer bios is available.
My current bios:phoenix technologies LTD 95.4 10/29/2007
bios update:Gateway 89.91.24 07/13/2010

I never flashed/updated a bios before.
Im not sure what improvments have been done.Doesn't give any detail but to download the file(s).
Would this update help any on shutdowns & restarts?I noticed from day one this laptop seems slow on that part.I know the OS has alot to do with that but was curious.
On startups its fast.But when I try to shutdown or restart,I could probably take a bath and it most likely would be in the process still when I would come back.
Iv'e done so many clean OS reinstalls I think I burned a HD out.All drivers would be up to date and compatable,& no programs istalled.Would still do it.

Look in the download details for a change log.

As far as improving startup & shutdown times, no it won't.
 
lot of times its related to security or and critical. It might make critical improvements and make it faster. It might be a flash for external hardware and improve or get it working. Be careful though. A flash will shut you down and its over. As suggested read the update and who needs it. If it does nothing or apply to you then leave it alone. Its risky business.

Guess its nothing special.Was hoping it said windows 7.
I striped my laptop down.I think I found my problem...temp issues.Hope everything is ok.
The cpu,onley 25% of the small square top has thermal paste on it.Looks S!#*y.And guess what,no thermal paste or even tape on the gpu at all.No bubbles on the gpu luckily though..whew.No wonder why my screen would shutoff sometimes.

These pc companys need to do beter thermal jobs.Do they have machines to do that part too?Lol.I watched a vid of a guy puting new thermal paste in his hp laptop.That company put the ceramic type on the cpu that was the size of a regular marshmallow.
