bios update

OK I had an old laptop been down for years hard drive went bad. A gateway M305crv with a intel 310A5MB0015 motherboard "I assume from looking at the specs on gateways site" I bought a new 320gb hard drive not thinking about the old bios only supporting up to 137gb and I can't get it to load windows I get an error after it loads the windows files and it loops me back to press F1 to continue or F2 for setup. I'm new to this bios stuff never really messed around with it and was wondering could I upgrade it to a version that supports large hard drives. If so what version will work with my computer and what files will I need to make a usb or cd to flash it with.

It's got a bios update here but not sure what it actually does, it doesn't say.

With this laptop being so old, I would save up and get a newer one. Are you trying to install the original version of XP without SP1 applied to it?

Can I partition the hard drive if windows loads? I think I finally got it to install windows. Crossing fingers.

Yes, you can partition it with the install cd.
