BIOS uppdate roll back possible? (P5KE)

If you're using Vista, or another x86 based OS, showing 3.2GB of RAM for 4GB in sticks is fairly common.. not sure what to say about your other issue, though.. sorry.

It is windows xp media edition, it is strange since when i remove one gig it will display the correct amount of ram in the computer (3gig), software limitation perhaps? and thanks for the tip, I wanted to give out as much info as possible for a solution but it can come off as spam i guess.

I think at this point i am better off just replacing the mobo & memory under warranty and not mess with anything overtly. i have one more question though should I go ahead and replace with the same memory? it seems to be compatible from the spec.

In the future, you should try to edit your last post rather than create another.. not trying to mini-mod here, just that some people have an e-complex and won't reply to those who double/triple/quadruple post.. even in their own threads :)

Good luck,

What many people new to forums don't realize is the need to wait for a reply before posting again. The one or more that offer help may be in the process of researching something when they find additional posts added.

The memory after 3.2 to 3.25gb is mapped out to hardwares in the 32bit versions of Windows. A good article on the 3gb barrier is seen at http://www.dansdata.com/askdan00015.htm On older boards increasing the AGP aperture from the default 64mb upto 256mb would see ram taken away and system memory shared with a video card.

Now for the latest correct bios update for that model board there are two separate downloads one for Windows and other gui type OEs and then the one for basic dos. The thumbnail screen shot here shows what is seen at the Asus support site for that model.

The two models apparently see the same chipset while one includes the Wi-Fi feature included. The correct update enables the settings in the bios for that onboard feature while the other may simply work for the rest.

Being a newer version it should easily update and correct any goofs from the incorrect update you grabbed earlier. If there's no other problems found like a bad cap on the board or in the supply that should clear things up. For the memory a need to manually set the dram timings for the 4-5-4-11 timings there might clean that up.

Mushkin is a good brand while Kingston or Corsair even Crucial is preferred for Asus models. Mushkin was good for ocing on the older Socket A boards by Asus however.
